Phil Cassidy is the owner of Phil’s Ammu-Nation, a gun store in Grand Theft Auto VI. He sells firearms in the state of Leonida and appears in his own store’s commercial in Trailer 2.
Who is Phil?
Phil runs an Ammu-Nation gun store that carries his name. He also serves as the face of its advertising, spreading his arms wide in front of the store’s firearms display as he enthusiastically pitches his business to customers.
He has a mustache and beard, with hair worn long at the back. His black sleeveless shirt shows off his tattooed arms, and he wears a chain around his neck. His distinctive appearance and larger-than-life sales pitch make him easy to remember.
Phil’s store commercial in Trailer 2
The Phil’s Ammu-Nation commercial appears at around 2:10 in Trailer 2, released on May 6, 2025. Phil promotes his store’s selection of firearms with an exaggerated boast about stocking more guns than the law allows, inviting viewers to stop by.
The commercial is one of the trailer’s glimpses of Leonida’s residents through local television and advertising. Even a place to buy guns has its own personality, shaped by its owner and his sales pitch.
Similarities to Phil Cassidy from earlier GTA games
GTA 6’s Phil Cassidy may remind longtime players of the gun dealer who shared his name in earlier games. Beyond the name, his facial hair and firearms business also feel familiar. He may be a reimagining of the earlier Phil Cassidy for the new Vice City.
One striking difference is that Phil has both arms in the GTA 6 commercial. The earlier Cassidy lost an arm in an explosion in GTA: Vice City and appeared as a one-armed gun dealer in GTA III and GTA: Liberty City Stories.
The games associated with GTA III and GTA: Vice City belong to a different story continuity from GTA IV and the games that followed it. With that distinction in mind, GTA 6’s Phil can be enjoyed as a possible homage to a familiar character, rather than simply the earlier Cassidy growing older.
Which earlier GTA games featured Phil Cassidy?
The gun dealer Phil Cassidy appeared in these four earlier games:
- GTA III: A weapons dealer in Liberty City.
- GTA: Vice City: A gun dealer who works with Tommy Vercetti. The game also depicts the explosion in which he loses an arm.
- GTA: Liberty City Stories: A gun seller in Liberty City.
- GTA: Vice City Stories: A character who works with Victor Vance in the years before GTA: Vice City.
For players who remember the earlier Vice City, his name and appearance offer a touch of nostalgia. His two arms and role as an Ammu-Nation store owner also give this version of Phil a different identity.
