It was announced that pre-orders for GTA6 will begin on June 25, 2026.
November 6, 2025:
It was announced that GTA6’s release date has been delayed again to November 19, from May 26, 2026.
May 7, 2025:
Rockstar Games’ official Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA6) website went live.

Alongside the announcement that the release date would be delayed from fall 2025, it was announced that the new release date would be May 26, 2026.
December 5, 2023:
GTA6’s first trailer had originally been scheduled for a YouTube premiere at 11:00 PM JST on December 5, 2023, but after Trailer 1 leaked online, Rockstar Games moved the release time up and released GTA6’s first trailer at 8:00 AM JST on December 5, 2023. They then reported this on Twitter. Trailer 1 included the title “Grand Theft Auto VI,” confirming that the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series would be titled “Grand Theft Auto VI.” Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games’ parent company, also issued a statement praising the planned 2025 release.
December 1, 2023:
Rockstar Games announced that the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto title would be released at 11:00 PM JST on December 5, 2023.
November 8, 2023:
To mark its 25th anniversary, Rockstar Games released a message of thanks to the community. In it, the company stated that the first trailer for the latest entry in the Grand Theft Auto series would be released in early December, confirming that GTA6’s first trailer would arrive in early December 2023.
May 18, 2023:
In investor presentation materials for its Q4 2023 earnings report, Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games’ parent company, announced that “development of the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is progressing well.”
September 19, 2022:
A large-scale leak of the latest Grand Theft Auto title, then in development, occurred via a third party, and Rockstar Games addressed it.
July 7, 2022:
In a newswire post, Rockstar Games stated, “We have begun shifting more and more development resources to our next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. We need to exceed player expectations more than ever, and we must make our next entry our best work yet.” They explained that Red Dead Online’s development resources were being shifted to GTA6’s development. After this, no further major updates were provided for Red Dead Online.
February 4, 2022:
Alongside details of the expanded version of GTA5, Rockstar Games stated in a newswire post, “We are happy to confirm that an innovative next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is currently in development,” marking the first announcement that a new GTA title was in development (though at this point it had not been confirmed that the game’s title would be GTA6).
